horses for courses though Graham.... the poor wee thing isn't intended to be an all singing / dancing desktop replacement or iPhone alternative is it? the real question is whether or not it fills a need - which it apparently does.

It's perfect for me when traveling - took it to a meeting last week, was able to slip it into an overnight bag, use it at the venue to keep up with email and play games on the train on the way home :-) my friend just bought one (after seeing mine) to use when the home computer was being hogged by her offspring. a nice cheap way to web browse and check her email.

I have to confess that my own guilty secret is that it's replaced the book at bedtime - I use iPlayer to catch up with missed programmes in bed - when MY offspring are hogging the TV and the computer (at least the Beeb now support Linux and Mac OS in streaming if not downloading). It's also made me determined to try out a "bigger" version of Linux - looking for a laptop bargain to load up ubuntu. So it's also, IMHO, a nice intro to Open Source... although word has it that later versions of the Eee will ship with Windoze :-(

I recommend as an ex user of XP and having use it at work I can comprehend your feelings of being worn down. I bought a Mac Book and all those stupid checks and updates and painful virus issues just disappeared - (doesn't mean I don't have antivirus s'ware) but having less of the market there's less stuff out there to mess up my O/S. Also because its unix at the core its super stable... and real easy in terms of functionality. Can pick up heaps of free/shareware etc now. Fast and well put together hardware.

My advice would be to go with Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit. I have actually been really pleased with Vista so far and do intend to stick with it for the time being. IMHO, Vista is the most stable, best performance Microsoft operating system to date.
